How to Use TypeTheBible.com

TypeTheBible.com is built around a simple idea: create a passage, type the Bible text verse by verse, and keep your notes and cross references attached to the verses where they belong. You can also use the study surface without typing, add annotations, and print formatted passages for personal study.

Starting Point: Your Stats Page

After logging in, you will be taken to your TypeTheBible Stats page. This page summarizes your progress, including verses typed, percentage of the Bible typed, recent activity, project status, stand-alone passage status, account creation date, and last login.

The Type the Bible Dashboard

Use the Type the Bible link in the site menu to reach your main dashboard. This page shows your stand-alone passages at the top, followed by your projects and the passages inside each project.

Projects

A project is a group of passages arranged around a goal, such as typing the New Testament, the Minor Prophets, or a custom reading plan. When creating a project, you may choose a template or start with an empty project and add passages yourself.

Project templates may include options such as the entire Bible, Old Testament, New Testament, Pentateuch, and Minor Prophets. Each project also has planning settings for words per typing day and typing days per week. These settings are used to estimate completion dates for the passages in order.

Project Passages

Inside a project, use Add passage to select the Bible version, book, chapter range, and verse range. You may also choose an entire book or an entire chapter when appropriate.

Passage rows show word count, estimated completion, and progress. Use the operations menu, marked with ≡, to print, configure, move, or delete a passage.

Stand-Alone Passages

Stand-alone passages work like project passages, except they are not attached to a project. They are useful for one-off studies, testing, or passages that do not belong to a larger typing plan.

The Typing Surface

Open a passage by clicking its title. The typing surface shows the Bible text and a typing box for each verse. Type each verse manually into its matching box.

  • Auto-save saves your work in the background.
  • Auto-check checks your typed text as you work.
  • Save manually saves the current passage.
  • Check manually checks the current chapter.
  • Layout switches between side-by-side and stacked views.
  • Chapter lets you jump directly to another chapter in the passage.

Correct verses are highlighted green. Verses still in progress may appear yellow. Empty verses are left unhighlighted until you begin typing them.

Notes and Cross References

Each verse may have notes and cross references attached to it. Use Add note beside a verse to add your own study notes. Cross references can point to another Bible passage, and may include a Bible version if it differs from the passage version.

Notes and cross references remain attached to their verse and can be included when printing.

The Study Surface

The Study surface shows the passage without typing boxes. It is intended for reading, notes, and cross references. This lets you use TypeTheBible.com as an annotated Bible study tool even when you are not typing the passage.

The study surface can also be printed. Unlike the typing surface, study printing uses the original Bible text and does not require the passage to be fully typed.

Printing

Use the Print button from a passage or study surface to open print settings. From there, choose a page size, number of columns, notes and cross reference visibility, footer visibility, fonts, and font sizes.

The Preview button opens a print-friendly preview page. Use your browser’s print command, usually Ctrl+P, to print or save the passage as a PDF.

Typing-surface printing only includes verses that have been correctly typed. Incorrect or unfinished verses are omitted from the preview, with a vertical ellipsis marking skipped sections.

Hand-Typed Certification

When a passage is fully completed, you may include a hand-typed certification badge in the printed output. This badge is not available from the study surface, because the study surface does not require manual typing completion.

The Recycle Bin

Deleted passages are moved to the Recycle Bin. From there, you may restore selected passages or permanently shred them. Use the checkboxes to select passages, or use Select all and Invert selection for faster management.

Helpful Workflow

  1. Create a project or stand-alone passage.
  2. Open the passage and type one chapter at a time.
  3. Keep Auto-save and Auto-check enabled while typing.
  4. Add notes and cross references as you study.
  5. Use the study surface when you want to review or annotate without typing.
  6. Use Print Preview to create a clean printable version or PDF.
  7. Check your Stats page regularly to track your progress.
